FREE WORKSHOPS THURSDAY, 6.20 8:00am – 1:00Pm Understanding Databases in NG9-1-1: An Overview* NG9-1-1 software and databases will enable advanced technical and operational capabilities for enhanced coordination and delivery of emergency services nationwide. These databases and their data content, working with software applications, will enable an exponential increase in the data and information available to PSAPs and first responders, while allowing agencies to intelligently manage and control that data. However, these software and databases are controlled in fundamentally new ways from E9-1-1 and present exciting new opportunities and challenges. This workshop is geared toward the operational perspective and is designed for managers, supervisors, and administrators. It introduces attendees to the world of NG9-1-1 systems, software, databases, and the data contained therein. Starting with the basics, participants will gain a foundational understanding of the roles each of the many databases play, how they work together, and their basic data requirements. Understanding the roles and capabilities of these different databases in NG9-1-1 will allow agencies to make informed decisions and develop the necessary policies and requirements as they move toward NG9-1-1. NG 9-1-1 8:00am – 1:00Pm Next Generation 9-1-1 from the Trenches: Early Adopter Roundtable* PRESENTED BY Support 9-1-1 Call Taker Training and Education! Join the Friends of 9-1-1. The NENA Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation, was established to develop education and training programs to equip 9-1-1 call takers with the tools they need to better serve our communities. When you support the Friends of 9-1-1™, you enable the NENA Foundation to carry out activities including: • 9-1-1 career training programs for America’s veterans, high school, junior college, and vocational students; • Scholarships, continuing education, and career advancement opportunities for 9-1-1 professionals; and • Public awareness campaigns designed to educate and inform consumers about access to, and usage of, the 9-1-1 system as public safety technologies and consumer communications products evolve. What are the technological, operational, and policy issues that must be considered to enable a seamless transition from today’s limited voice-only E9-1-1 systems to tomorrow’s data-rich Next Generation systems? How can cities, counties, and regions collaborate and coordinate to achieve maximum efficiencies and interoperability? Most importantly, how much is all of this going to cost and how can limited funds be stretched to get the most bang for your buck? Join the NENA Next Generation Partner Program for this interactive and informative roundtable workshop to hear from early adopters coast-to-coast about the various models and paths taken by PSAPs, 9-1-1 Authorities, and states to begin the migration to Next Generation 9-1-1. In addition to answering the above questions, participants will learn about various governance models, interim steps during the transition period, enlisting decision makers as allies, and much more. This workshop is a must for any public safety professional interested in making the leap to NG9-1-1 — and doing it right the first time. *Pre-registration required. 20 www. nena.org/nena2013 Visit www.nena.org/nena2013/register to register online.
