As the Crow Flies is part of a new body of work
Sarah Gilbert has been making that is focused on
discovering what makes a place feel like home.
Focusing on her two homes--Rochester, NY and
Tacoma, WA--this piece is meant to reference the
idea of being able to just get somewhere (home)
using the fastest route between point A and point B.
My work with glass transforms the notion that
Native artists are only best when traditional
materials are used. It has helped advocate
on the behalf of all indigenous people--
affirming that we are still here--that we are
declaring who we are through our art in
connection to our culture.
