Thank you: Cappy Thompson and Traver Gallery
Vitreous enamel reverse-painted on glass
mounted over brushed aluminum
22 x 28 inches
Signed 2009
Cappy Thompson's first professional exposure to glass
was in 1975 when she went to work for a studio in
Olympia, Washington. She worked there until her
reputation caught the attention of glass artists Charlie
Parriott, Therman Statom, and Dale Chihuly. Using
grisaille, a process for painting stained glass windows
developed in the Middles Ages, Thompson creates
intelligent "picture poems" on panels by combining
mythology, folk styles, and self-expression. Thompson
has two local shows opening in the fall: one at Traver
Gallery from October 3 31 of new vessels and another
at Bellevue Arts Museum from Oct. 10Jan. 19 entitled
Telling Tales: Narrative Works by Nate Steigenga,
Cappy Thompson, and Anna Torma

In this stunning panel a couple dreams away
nestled in the upper room of a tower-house,
while the moon swings by in her horse-drawn
chariot. She pours a stream of flower-stars to
the dreamers below.
