Ben Cobb has always been intrigued by science;
this is where he draws inspiration. Natural forms,
biology, and botany, from cellular forms to shapes
and proportion of people, all inspire what he
makes. Cobb focuses on creating unique objects
that are abstract and modern interpretations of
natural forms.
Living in the Pacific Northwest, Cobb spends a lot of
time outdoors and in the natural world. Increasingly,
forms from the natural world have crept into his
repertoire of shapes. The way a seed pod develops
over the springtime to open into a flower; the color
change of gingko leaves from dark green in the
summer months to the brilliant gold in early fall:
by being aware of these changes, Cobb has been
interested in drawing parallels between human
biological systems and natural systems.
