On Montauk
to the North Ferry that takes you to the his-
toric town of Greenport on the North Fork of
Long Island. This seafaring town offers muse-
ums, shops, galleries and hosts many events
throughout the year, including the famous
Maritime Festival in September. Visit Mitch-
ell Park with its antique carousel and working
blacksmith shop. The North Fork is known
for its many farms. A must stop on Route 25
Main Road, two miles east of Greenport is
Lavender By The Bay, the East Coast's largest
pick your own lavender farm and retail shop,
where everything lavender can be purchased.

TOUR THE WINERIES
With 40 vineyards on the North Fork, and
three on the South Fork, combine sightseeing
with full-day or half-day wine tours. The South
Fork's Duck Walk Vineyards, with its magnifi -
cent building in Southampton, is open seven
days a week from 11 am-6 pm, has complemen-
tary tours and a tasting room. Come for live
music on the patio 1:00-5:00 pm Memorial Day
weekend thru October, weather permitting.
BLOCK ISLAND
It takes just one hour on the Viking Fleet high-
speed ferry to travel 12 miles to Block Island
(668-5700, vikingfleet.com). Ferry service
operates May through October. Regular daily
service is from June 14­September 16 at 10 am,
with a return at 5pm. Offering an additional
trip Sundays in July and August, at 3:30 pm,
and an additional return on these days at 11:30
am. The ferry docks at the Viking Fleet dock
in Montauk Harbor and at Champlin's Marina
on Block, a full-service marina in New Harbor
where you will fi nd bicycle and car rentals,
and guided tours through the taxi services.
Similar to Montauk in landscape and casual
atmosphere, Block Island has many shops and
restaurants. Rent a bicycle or moped, or bring
a bike with you on the ferry. See very beautiful
farms and stone fences and high bluffs over
the Atlantic Ocean. While in Block Island be

CONNECTICUT
The Viking Fleet has one-hour high-speed
passenger only ferry service to New London
CT, from May 24 ­ October 14, at 6:30 pm with
a return at 8:00 pm. In July and August the
ferry sails on Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays,
other months on Fridays and Sundays only.
