Home is where the heart is, so we should guard it the
best that we can. Upgrading your home's security will
prevent most incidents from happening and catch the
inevitable ones in the process. With something so
precious, it is always better to be safe than sorry.
First, make sure your yard is well lit. It doesn't have
to be bright like a parking lot, but the darkest areas
of your lawn and backyard should have some sort of
illumination to help identify objects at night. Porch
lights should be maintained and spotlights over a
large backyard are ideal, and can serve a dual purpose
when entertaining outside.
Second, install overhead locks on doors and windows,
and patch any holes in screens around the home. Re-
frain from using burglar bars that don't come with
keyless fire escape latches on them, as they can be
hazardous during an emergency if you're trying
to exit the home. The best form of DIY security is a
fence, which keeps unwanted animals and individu-
als out of your personal space, and creates a neat trim
to manage your outdoor areas as well.
Some of us feel most secure when we know that help
is only a second away with the sound of a single alarm.
Security systems are helpful, but expensive. If you're
thinking about installing a security system, look into
ones you can monitor yourself. They still come with
an emergency button that you can press to notify the
proper officials when something has gone wrong, and
they add convenience to your lifestyle by letting you
monitor your house while you're away via cameras
that can sync to your phone.
Knowing that your home and your family are safe is
comforting and reduces stress. Take advantage of all
the modern tools and upgrade your home's security.
You'll sleep easier and be more prepared than ever if
something were to happen.
