In The News
Buckingham Elementary School students Garv Patel, Kassidy Hynes, Andre Andrews and Anthony Burke in first grade used STEM skills to build/construct houses. As part of the “Design Dilemma” unit, students read the story "The 3 Little Pigs" and discussed house design, building materials and structural concepts. Students were then given materials to construct their own house to withstand wind and other destructive forces.
Members of Stephen Decatur Middle School's Environmental Club planted native shrubs, including bayberry and sweetspire, near outdoor classrooms to help manage storm water runoff. Rain barrels were also placed around the area to help reduce runoff and supplement rainfall for watering the shrubs. Pre-kindergarten students Alex Abu-Zaid and Brianne Watson at Ocean City Elementary used their senses during a science activity. Students explored the inside and outside of several different sized pumpkins. Students used describing words like squishy, slimy, sticky and smooth to describe the inside of the pumpkin.

Stephen Decatur Middle School’s After School Academy is now offering “Sew Fun” for students interested in learning the fundamentals of using a sewing machine. Above, Samantha Stephan uses the sewing machine.
