Candidates must meet rigorous eligibility requirements to be eligible for certification. Achieving the CDE credential demonstrates to people with diabetes and employers that the health care professional possesses distinct and specialized knowledge, thereby promoting quality of care for people with diabetes. Currently, there are over 17,800 diabetes educators who hold NCBDE certifications. Jameson is an integral part of the outpatient diabetes education program at Atlantic General Hospital. This service offers personalized, individual counseling and group classes that family members are encouraged to attend. Jameson also speaks frequently at community events, writes articles for local publications and is involved with the TriCounty Diabetes Alliance. She has a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Rochester, NY, and a master’s degree in public health nutrition from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
