Mrs. Gee's third-grade class at Ocean City Elementary wrote cinquain poems to honor Ocean City's firefighters and paramedics. Razaak Eniola, a senior at Worcester Preparatory School pictured with Headmaster Dr. Barry Tull, was named a semifinalist in the 2014 National Achievement Scholarship Program. Of the more than 160,000 high school juniors from throughout the United States who took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), 1,600 black American high school seniors qualified for this honor.

Sweet Frog Yogurt store paid a visit to Berlin Intermediate school to reward Michael Anne Bunting's class for their great job at collecting "Boxtops for Education." In the month of September, Bunting's homeroom collected $61 worth of Boxtops. This money comes directly back to BIS to be used in the school. In honor of National Fire Prevention Week, Ocean City firefighters taught children the importance of having two ways out of their home, the dangers of fire and what to do should their home catch on fire. Approximately 715 students will receive instruction, handouts and participate in demonstrations. Using calorimetry, Worcester Prep sophomores Kathryn O’Malley, Haley Larsen and Hanna Nechay calculate just how many calories there are in a cashew. The research is part of a science project in teacher Jenn Corron’s class. The students learned there are approximately nine calories in a cashew.
