cussed at length in front of the Wor-
cester County Commissioners and
Board of Education and is some-
thing the organization is firmly a-
gainst.
Lollar began by saying that he
could agree with the government
that a core set of educational stan-
dards might seem like a good idea,
especially with the marketplace
after school becoming more com-
petitive and more global.
However, he said that CCC as it
is written goes too far and en-
croaches upon states' sovereignty
in crafting their own curriculum.
"On the surface, it seems like a
good idea. But here's the problem:
they forgot about the idea of feder-
alism and Thomas Jefferson's
quotes and sayings that the best
government is not just the one that
governs least but is also closest to
the people," said Lollar.
During his remarks, Lollar touch-
ed on the sensitive issue of race in
politics. He said that the GOP has
been stuck with the label of "racists"
for many years but argued that it is
undeserved.
"They run around and they call us
racists. I think this is the last frontier
of excuse that they're going to use
to stop us from trying to come to-
gether," Lollar told the WCTP.
Lollar, an African-American,
claimed that the simple fact that he
was running as a Republican and
enjoying so much support proved
that conservatives don't care about
skin color.
"Your friends don't have to look
like you on the outside to be the
closest to you when they look like
you on the inside," he said.
One other point that Lollar made
was with his support of the 2nd
Amendment. He is wary of attempts
to introduce legislature which would
limit access to firearms, Lollar ex-
plained, because he was pessi-
mistic about criminals bothering to
follow those rules.
"Because common criminals are-
n't going to turn in their weapons
come July 1 or September 1. Only
law-abiding citizens are going to do
that," he asserted.
Lollar finished by telling the
group that he is ready and eager for
the 2014 election season, adding
that he has the support of political
figures like Dr. Ben Carson and for-
mer-Maryland Gov. Bob Ehrlich.
"I honestly believe that we have a
shot at 2014. If we didn't have a
shot at 2014, I guarantee you that
the last republican governor, Gov-
ernor Bob Ehrlich, would not have
called me after the election to ask to
see if I would consider running for
governor," said Lollar. "Both republi-
cans and democrats are saying the
same thing about Maryland: it
needs to get better, and yet we have
an arrogant executive right now who
thinks things are so great he should
be running for president."
