For children entering Grade 1 through 4
Hawks Haven Day Camp enables your child to have a
summer filled with fun and field trips, enrichment and
exploration, learning and laughter. Our programming
is designed to ensure that each age group will enjoy a
wide variety of experiences that are developmentally
appropriate in a safe and secure environment. A
tentative schedule is provided to give an outline of the
typical activities that are included in the Hawks Haven
experience. Our programming is flexible enough,
however, to include free choice, spontaneity and
unstructured play.
Campers enjoy time with their own age groups but
also experience the advantages of multi-aged groups
on a regular basis. This ensures that siblings in various
grades have an opportunity to spend time together and
allows for leadership development of our older students
as they "buddy-up" with the younger ones!
The social, emotional, intellectual and physical needs of
each camper are addressed through:
·
Recreationandplaygroundtime
·
Artsandcraftsprojects
·
Music,movementanddramaticactivities
·
Learninggamesand"funpacks"incomputer
skills, mathematics, reading and writing
·
CommunityServiceprojects
·
Fieldtrips,museumvisitsandparkexcursions
There will be ample time for playground play on a daily
basis. Weather permitting, we will use our soccer field
for water fun. Our beautiful grounds also provide some
great places for an outdoor summer lunch.
Many exciting activities and adventures await campers
this summer. We are confident the Hawks Haven Day
Camp experience will fulfill the needs of both parents
and campers.
A typical week includes:
MARVELOUS MATHEMATICAL MONDAY
Math skill review is part of Monday's schedule, but it IS
summer, after all. Therefore, math will be enjoyed through
math games, "beat the clock" skill drills, or manipulative
activities. Taking time out to enjoy "Sports Skills," we may
have instruction and drills in basketball, soccer, and/or tennis.
Sports time may also include some Primary School group
games such as "Sponge-Bob Ball", "Pirate Ship", or "Clean up
Your Backyard."
TERRIFIC TUESDAY
Much of the day will be spent enjoying off campus activities
and local attractions. To prevent summer "brain drain" we
will spend time journaling and doing word study fun packs.
Creating and solving crossword puzzles or word searches,
and more.
WILD-CARD WEDNESDAY
Excitement and fun through hands-on science
demonstrations are a highlight of "Wild Card Wednesday."
Sometime after science, we'll Drop Everything And Read
(D.E.A.R.)! Arts and Crafts will include such activities as
needlecrafts, scrapbooking, stamping, weaving, beadwork,
painting or ceramics. We may announce an occasional "Wild
Card Day", where we dress up in our favorite team jersey,
bring a personal item for show and tell, or have a theme day
such as "Tropical Fun" where we transform a classroom into a
tropical paradise.
THRILLING THURSDAY
Thursday's thrills have us on the bus again. Some of our
favorite places to visit include Adventure Rock (indoor
rock-climbing) and competing in an old fashioned "tractor
pull" at the Racine County Fair.
"FUN"TASTIC FRIDAY
You can never tell what might happen on "FUN"tastic Friday.
Surprises may include a celebration of a funny "holiday" (have
you ever celebrated National Watermelon Day?), a
"no-bake" snack (Edible Aquariums, anyone?), or a special
guest. Activities may also include culture (foreign language
fun and learning about other countries and cultures) or
computers and iPads (review keyboarding through "All the
Right Type," have fun with "Pop Words!" or "Kid Pics," or create
a memory with i-movie). Finally, it is always fun to express
ourselves through "Music & Movement" or Yoga.
