ALUMNI Ffion Davis (’07), whose family moved to New Zealand several years ago, is studying at Auckland University. Her goal is to be a marine biologist. Secret Po Po bandmates Matthew Witkowski, Michael Mello and Matthew Ross (all ’07) played at Bermuda’s New Year’s Eve party in 2009, closing the Island’s 400th anniversary year of celebrations on Front Street. Matthew Ross (’07) is at the University of Toronto, Ont., and was the trumpet soloist at the Bermuda Heritage Concert 2010 at St. John’s Church in May. Yvonna Osborne (’07) made the dean’s list her first semester at Temple University, Philadelphia, and has joined the university’s hockey team. Alexander Gibbs (’07) is attending Roger Williams University, Bristol, RI, majoring in Economics. In his spare time, he is a part-time EMT with the Bristol Fire Department. Before attending Glasgow University Macintosh School of Art in September 2010, Piers Kermode (’07) is on a “world tour,” travelling to Canada, Fiji (where he went scuba-diving and achieved the next level in his PADI certification), New Zealand and Hong Kong—with possible stops in Beijing, China, Thailand and Vietnam, before heading to France and later joining his father, former Saltus headmaster Nigel Kermode, and brother Tristan, in Italy. James Waddell (’07) won a 2009 Peter Leitner Arts Scholarship for his Bachelor of Arts in Dance Performance at Central School of Ballet, London, UK. Philip Bergquist (’09) made dean’s list in his first and second semesters at Bryant University, Rhode Island. Please send any updates and photos (highresolution only) for our future issues to alumni@saltus.bm Gianluca Gibbons (’07), an ACE summer student in 2008, was selected by the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers communications and public outreach committee to design a booth at the ACE Careers Fair in 2008. He credits his Design and Technology classes at Saltus as helping him with that project. He is graduating from the Colegio Adventista De Sagunto, Valencia, Spain, speaks French and Spanish, has played saxophone on two CDs, and plays in a church group that performs in the area. He will be attending La Sierra University, Riverside, CA, to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing with a minor in Music. national Affairs and Debate Association (PSIADA), whichwe debates on the Ivy League circuit. “In my first semester I debated at Yale and went to Chicago for a debate conference,” she says. “While this type of debate is Model United Nations, the experience and team-building I gained from joining Saltus and National Debate has helped me with this transition.” She is also involved with Earthhouse, a club that promotes sustainable living on campus, and helps the local Red Cross chapter with blood drives and socials. 45 S A LT U S M A G A Z I N E
