ALUMNI Akinyi Apopa (’02) joined Saltus as a lab technician in September 2009, and performed in the BMDS pantomime, Robin Hood. In February this year, She accompanied the Bermuda National Debate Team to Doha, Qatar, as an adjudicator for the 22nd World Schools Debating Championships. She had previously taken part as a Saltus and BHS debater. LaKae Dill (’02) coach of U-17 Bermuda Hockey Team travelled to Uruguay with the team in March for the Pan American Youth Championships. Dill is working while studying for her personal training exam. Christopher Conway (’02), at Axis Re, is joining the underwriting team to work on US property cat reinsurance. Charlotte Webster Swan (’02) has a degree in Sociology from Warwick University, UK, and currently works for an educational IT company in Oxfordshire, UK. She brought her husband to the Island last September for a visit. Tiffany Paynter (’03), whose passion is poetry, is the youth programme coordinator for the Chewstick Foundation, which promotes local talent. She oversees Chewstick’s educational programmes, aimed at empowering individuals and uniting the local community through the arts. Kim Davies (’03) has been accepted to the University of Newcastle Medical School, UK. Michael Whale (’03) graduated with a BA in History from Mount Allison University, Nova Scotia, and is currently working for Porter Airlines in Toronto. He has been accepted into the International Management Masters programme at the University of Kent, UK, for September 2010. Carl Soares (’03), who graduated from the Savannah College of Art & Design with a major in Industrial Design and minor in Transport and Marine Design, Gillian Henderson (’01) with brother Graeme (’98), and her daughter Annika Ruth, at the Ruth Henderson Memorial Concert, honouring their late mother, a long-time Saltus music teacher Lesley-Jane Smith (’01) earned her CPA designation and currently works in the liquidations Department at PriceWaterhouseCoopers. Vanessa DeSilva (’01), a management consultant with Expertise Ltd., was profiled in The Royal Gazette. In her spare time, she is a longtime volunteer with local animal-welfare organisations. Kiera Aitken (’01), who competed in the 2004 and 2008 Olympics, was named Bermuda Female Athlete of the Year for the second year in a row. Aitken was the first Bermudian female to break the one-minute mark in the 100 metres backstroke with a time of 59:31. Aitken, based in Europe, was unable to return home to receive her award, which was accepted by her mother, Mary-Beth Aitken, who said swimming was her daughter’s “life’s calling.” Colby Mello Medeiros (’02), a graphic designer at the Bermuda Sun, and husband Jeffrey welcomed son Jaylen Medeiros. Debbie Atwood (’02) has a BA from Brock University, St. Catharines, Ont., an MA from Bristol University, UK, and is currently working on her PhD in 40 Archaeology from Bristol. She plays basketball for a Bristol club team. Mark Tatem (’02) is on the road a lot as a staff photographer for The Royal Gazette. Edward Barnes (’02) was on the Bermuda rugby team that played the Cayman Islands this spring. The Bermuda team won—on his birthday. Chanjiv Simons (’02) is a management trainee in enterprise risk management at Butterfield Bank. John Neal (’02) was a Butterfield Bank 2008 management trainee and is currently Butterfield Asset Management’s assistant controller (Bermuda). Stephen Hillen (’02) got married, and he and his wife Erin are now living in London, Ontario. Sean Terceira (’02) graduated from Durham College, Oshawa, Ont., and purchased his first home last year, in Canada.
