Moving and Handling Link Workers
Link Workers are recruited from Health Care Assistants who hold an NVQ/VQ in Care or Health
and Social Care, or trained health care staff. They must have an interest in promoting good mov-
ing and handling practice in the workplace.


The aim of this course is to develop Moving and Handling Link Workers to enable them to lead best
practice with regard to safe moving and handling in the workplace. On completion of the course the
Link Workers will be able to demonstrate a high level of competence with regard to moving and
handling of loads and people, act as the workplace link with the Institute, provide basic work-based
training, and monitor, advise and support other staff with regard to moving and handling issues.

The course is 4 days long, including a one-day follow-up session.
Moving and Handling Link Workers Workshops
Half day workshops to enable Link Workers to update their skills and share best practice or skills.
Initial Course
£100 per individual
Updates
£60 per individual
Load Handling
This course includes theoretical and practical elements of safer moving and handling of objects and
loads. It is suitable for clerical workers, administrators and other employees with minimal handling
requirements.


Frequency:
Those working in areas that have been assessed as high risk should attend an annual update.
Those working in areas that have been assessed as low risk should attend training every 3 years.
Moving and Handling of People
This course includes theoretical and practical
elements of safer moving and handling of people.
People Handling Initial: 5 hour session
People Handling Update: 2.5 hours session.

Frequency:
All health professionals required to move and handle people should attend an annual update.
