BA (Hons) Professional Practice
Diploma of Higher Education in Professional Practice
This Guernsey-based Honours programme has been created by the
Institute and validated by the University of East Anglia (UEA).

The degree has been designed to meet the continuing professional development (CPD) needs of ALL professionals
working in health and social care settings. This part-time programme comprises 20 and 40 credit modules, each
addressing a contemporary issue related to practice. Students may enter the programme to access a BA (Hons)
Professional Practice degree, a Diploma of Higher Education or individual modules for CPD.

Modules available include:
Evidence-Based Practice (20 credits)
Dementia (20 credits) Reproductive Health (20 credits)
Health Promotion (20 credits) Safeguarding Adults (20 credits)
Advancing Practice (40 credits) Dissertation (40 credits)

A programme of modules is published prior to each academic year with
individual modules being advertised approximately 3 months prior to

Access to the course
Students will access the course through the accreditation of prior learning. It is expected that the students
undertaking the course will already hold a professional qualification which would have led them to be registered
with a recognised regulatory body. This qualification, which is a pre-requisite for the course, will enable them to
claim credit for prior formal learning and experiential learning at level 4 and, where possible, level 5.
Mentor Preparation
Programme
The Institute in partnership with the University of East Anglia runs the Mentor Preparation Programme at level 2,
level 3 and unaccredited for those who already have a degree.

The programme enables the student to gather evidence which demonstrates their capability as a mentor or
supervisor. The course is for any health care professional wishing to become a mentor. Students are required to
complete a portfolio of evidence, based on supporting learners in practice. Those on levels 5 and 6 also need to
write an essay. In order to undertake this programme you must have:
an appropriate professional qualification e.g. Registered Nurse, Operating Department Practitioner,
Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapy
a minimum of 12 months post-qualifying experience
the written support of your manager
to be able to demonstrate your ability to study at the required level
the agreement of an appropriately qualified and experienced colleague to support you on the programme
and assess your practical competence. This will be your supervising mentor
access to a pre-registration student
