The luxurious, historic Wynne Home of Huntsville plays host to several events this year. Because of its unique nature,
the home allows guests a chance to view a piece of history in the form of Victorian era décor as well as function as an art
gallery. Built in 1883, the home was donated by Samuella Wynne Palmer in1998 to the city for cultural activities and to
preserve its rich historic elements.
Linda Pease, Cultural Services Coordinator for the city of Huntsville, explains that the Wynne Home is quite a destination
choice for visitors to the city of Huntsville.
"The Wynne Home is a treasured Texas Landmark, and is a unique site for guests to explore and
enjoy," Linda shares. "The beautiful 19th century mansion (now restored) has more than 20
pieces of Victorian furniture, many works of fine art by self-taught artists and a gallery with
outstanding collections of regional artists. In addition, the pottery studio is regularly open
for potters to work. The Wynne Home is a place to be inspired and transformed by art in
an historical setting. Truly, it is a place to share our cultural heritage."
Herb Festival
Join the Texas Thyme Unit on March 16, 2013, as they host the second annual
Herb Day at the Wynne Home! From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., vendors share their garden-
inspired products for visitors to explore and purchase. Local artists and musical
guests are set to liven up the event, while guests shop various items offered, such
as homemade soaps, candles, homegrown plants and handmade artwork.
Jean Marsh, Chair of the Texas Thyme Unit, shares that most of last year's exciting
vendors are set to return. "Last year we had 12 different vendors (all garden
related) along with a butterfly presentation, herbal vinegar demonstration and
a guest author to speak and sign her books," Jean explains. "This year, our
Texas Thyme Unit will have homemade goodies to sell to eat as well as
oils, lip-gloss, hand sanitizers, and an excellent group of herb plants that
aren't easily found in garden shops."
The Texas Thyme Unit maintains an herb garden on the grounds
of the Wynne home and invites visitors to stroll through the
garden and home while listening to various musical ensembles.
"Our group is committed to spreading the good word
about the use and delight of herb plants and all things
herbal," Jean says. "Any funds we make are returned to the
community in the form of new gardens on community
properties and in programs for the community. We
look forward to a long, healthy and happy relationship
with this (Huntsville) and surrounding communities."
