Enjoy the sounds of musical artists this
spring, performing every Friday night
on the steps of the Walker County
Courthouse in downtown Huntsville.
The music series takes place from
April 5 - May 10, 2013 from 6-9 p.m.
Country, Blues, Rock, Folk and the
beats of Jazz fill the air as artists provide
a variety of music from various genres.
Kim McAuliffe, director of the Main
Street program, says many returning
and new groups are set to perform.
"Several hundred people came out to
see the performances and are excited
for the music to start up again," Kim
says. "Snacks and drinks will be sold,
but lawn chairs and blankets are
highly encouraged!"
Huntsville's Downtown Farmer's Market
is set to kick off their season. Seasonal
produce are bountifully displayed May 4
- Aug 31, 2013, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Vendors are located between University
Avenue and 11th and 12th streets.
Each month, local farmers offer
mouth-watering delights. The summer
crop typically yields berries, squash,
peppers, corn, beans, watermelon,
and tomatoes. However, visitors also
enjoy homemade and locally supplied
honey, seeds, and soaps.
"This will also be the return of `The
Airing of the Quilts' event and an
antique tractor show which is sure
to attract several thousand people
downtown," Kim states.

A Texans Unique History
Megan
Buro,
the
Sam
Houston Memorial Marketing
Coordinator, explains that the
event includes a silent auction
with proceeds going directly to
the museum, a facility that is rich
in Texas history.
"The
Museum
sits
on
approximately 15 acres of the
Houston Farm," Megan shares.
"The Houston's bought land here in Huntsville in 1847
and built the Woodland Home, a national historic
landmark that still stands today on the original site. The
main museum houses our crown jewels - artifacts from
Sam, Margaret, the Houston family, and items from Texas'
fight for Independence."
While attending the party, take a moment to stroll down a
path and throughout the museum site. Don't forget your
camera!
