PETER DAVIES, PHD
Head of the Center for Alzheimer's Disease
& Memory Disorders
When Dr. Davies was a teenager, his
biology class took a field trip to a school for
developmentally disabled children. Many
of the children suff ered from serious brain
disorders, which made a huge impression
on Dr. Davies at the time. He wanted to
understand how the children developed
these brain disorders, and when he asked
his teacher how he could pursue this, he was
advised to study biochemistry. This advice
put him on his path to scientific discovery.
CENTER FOR ALZHEIMER'S
DISEASE & MEMORY DISORDERS
The Center for Alzheimer's
Disease & Memory Disorders is
the only dedicated Alzheimer's
disease research facility on
Long Island. Those in the center
are committed to identifying
new ways to detect and treat
Alzheimer's disease. This eff ort
is critical not only to our local
community, but to the population
overall--as a result of the aging
population and increased life
expectancy, the number of
Americans age 65 and older with
Alzheimer's disease may nearly
triple by 2050.
