Human Genetics When Dr. Gregersen was a medical resident in the late 1970s, a young woman with lupus died under his care and he realized at that moment there was a need to generate knowledge about autoimmune diseases. He then began a rheumatology fellowship at a time when modern molecular biology and genetics were exploding, and he successfully cloned the first HLA genes for rheumatoid arthritis. This convinced him that research was the most important and exciting thing he could do with his life. Today, Dr. Gregersen pursues genetics research with a highly collaborative style, providing him with extraordinary connections and friendships around the world. HUMAN GENETICS Genomics & Human Genetics is to identify and understand the genetic contribution to human diseases and translate these discoveries into new diagnostics and therapeutics. Center researchers are focused on autoimmune diseases and neuropsychiatric traits and disorders, and conduct a full range of human genetics research. |
