![]() Cell Biology One Saturday morning, at age 12, Dr. Rothstein awoke with severe abdominal pain. Aft er an off ice examination, he overheard the doctor telling his parents "you know, people still die from ruptured appendices." As he recovered from surgery, those words rang in Dr. Rothstein's ears. It was then that he decided to become a doctor so that he could help others. A year later, Dr. Rothstein had his first science class in 7th grade. He was, for the first time, exposed to the world of scientific thinking and was totally captivated. These two experiences put Dr. Rothstein on the track he continues to pursue today --being an MD/PhD physician-scientist, who advances science to improve patients' lives. CELL BIOLOGY Oncology & Cell Biology study cancer and related aspects of cell biology, all geared toward understanding the abnormal growth and behavior of cells that have been malignantly transformed. These eff orts include finding ways to harness the body's own immune system to attack cancerous growths through antibodies and T cells, approaches that are currently in clinical trials. |
