Dove Pointe To Host Chefs For Habitat
SALISBURY – Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County will hold its fourth annual signature fund raising event, Chefs for Habitat, at Dove Pointe in Salisbury on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 5:30-10 p.m. Twelve of the Shore’s most talented chefs will prepare samplings of their signature dishes, and Black Diamond will complement the servings with a carving station. This year, there will be a cocktail hour beginning at 5:30 p.m. with champagne and appetizers provided by David Easton, Jade Inc., Sushi De Kanpai and fabulous crab dip by Roadie Joe’s Bar & Grill. The Celebrity Waiters’ Race will begin at 6:30 with 16 community leaders making their way through Architect Eric Cattelier of Becker Morgan’s spectacular obstacle course. The winners include the person who makes it through without spilling the glass of wine and the person who raises the most money for Habitat. The celebrity waiters include David Caldwell, Ernie Colburn, Jacob Day, Brad Gillis, Rev. Benita Harris, Dr. Chris Huddleston, Dr. Walter Lischick, Jane Ellen Mengason, Chere Petty, John Robinson, Kimberly Roemer, Dan Satterfield, Kristin Smith, Dr. William Talley, Ed Townsend and Joan Wharton. Votes for celebrity waiters at $5 for five votes can be made at www.chefsforhabitat.com. After the Waiters’ Race, guests will proceed to the ballroom where they will sample luscious offerings from Juan Flores of Cactus Taverna; Gerald Patt of Chef on a Roll; Tommy Cooper of Fager’s Island; Patrick Fanning of The High Spot Gastropub; Nate Bowden of The Irish Penny Pub & Grill; Julius Sanders of Jules; and Arturo Suazo of SoBo’s Wine Beerstro. Black Diamond will provide a carving station and pasta salad. Dessert will follow in the foyer with offerings from pastry chef Susan Patt of Cake Art, Tina Padilla of Taylors BBQ and TCBY. The live and silent auction focus on two themes: “There’s no Place Like Home” which celebrates everything that makes homes special, from landscaping and art to paint and décor and “The Great Escape” which will offer everything from wonderfully prepared meals to great getaways. The event will raise money for the Realtors Build home, for Habitat’s newest family partner, Wayne and Susie Zickafoose and their 20year-old grandson, Kevin. The Zickafooses, who have been married for 44 years, want to move to Salisbury to be nearer the services at PRMC and to access help for their grandson who has learning disabilities. The Zickafooses are busy completing their 300 hours of sweat equity and saving $1,800 toward closing cost. When the house is finished, they will assume a 30-year, no-interest mortgage from habitat.
