File Photo BERLIN – The historic town will turn into a haven of free and live bluegrass music, beginning tonight and continuing into Saturday. Old photos Needed Of Ocean City I am working on a history of Ocean City from its beginnings in the 1870’s to the events of the current day. The memories of local citizens will be featured along with many never before published photos. Beach and boardwalk scenes, old hotels and restaurants, and the storms and fires that changed the Ocean City landscape will be remembered. I am still looking for interesting old photos and particularly in the following areas: • Ocean City Before 1910 • Buildings That No Longer Exist (Jackson’s Casino, the Irish House, Morbid Manor) • Places Of Interest Along The Boardwalk In The 1960 s (Ernie’s Donuts, Billy’s Sub Shop, Pier Ballroom) • Fire photos: Arson Fires Of The 1970’s, Great Fire Of 1925 • Ocean City During World War II • Pound Fishing, The Railroad in Ocean City, The Easter Parade • Photos Of Local “Characters” (Tex, Shorty, Roy Beckett, Mack Miller) All photos will be copied and returned and photo credits and/or acknowledgements noted in the book. Anyone interested in sharing their photos can contact me by phone 410-208-9345 or email them to bunkmann3@aol.com. The book will be available to the public when published. Bluegrass musicians from across the country will vie for thousands in cash prizes in adult and youth fiddle, banjo, guitar, mandolin and bluegrass band competitions in this weekend’s 21st Annual Berlin Fiddler's Convention on Main Street. This event has brought thousands to the area for free, live bluegrass music, and with this year marking the 21st anniversary of this popular event, the crowds promise to be even bigger, according to organizers. The event will feature two days of bluegrass entertainment, starting Friday night with this year's exciting headlining act, Reno & Harrell Sons of Legends. The band will play again Saturday morning, followed by a full day of both youth and adult competitors vying for cash prizes for best band, guitar, banjo, mandolin and fiddler. The festivities get underway on Friday evening with last year’s band winner, Blue Crab Crossing, performing from 7-8 followed by Reno & Harrell Sons of Legends from 810. Saturday is competition day with registration beginning at 10 a.m. followed by Reno & Harrell Sons of Legends from 11 a.m.-noon. From noon to 5 p.m., bragging rights are on the line during the music competition. Awards will be presented at the conclusion of the competition.
