$120,000,000! If we control for inflation since 1985 the $18,150,244 cost of government in 1985
would be $39,293,760.10 in 2013 dollars, (roughly $40M). The additional $80M a year being spent
by government now, has caused our prices to rise so much that our base, the middle class families
with children in the surrounding cities, can no longer afford to come. This $80M in additional
annual cost is unsustainable because it causes the businesses that are supposed to pay for it to fail.
This huge government expense explains most of the cost increases by businesses, who are strain-
ing to stay in business. This $80M of added government cost has forced capital investment to
leave Ocean City. This flight of capital investment from Ocean City explains much of the growth
in West Ocean City. Unchecked growth in the OC government has become destructive to the busi-
ness community that provides its tax base. The increase in vacancies, graffiti, crime, drunks, and
bars are symptomatic of the inner city, like New York before Rudy Giuliani fixed the problems.
The high costs of government have priced OC out of our middle class market and are destroying
our beach town and its family based culture.

cost of doing business drops, we will attract businesses to fill the vacancies, open the closed shops,
attract the street vendors again, and re-create the economic vibrancy that made us the best vacation
destination within 500 miles. Taking back the $80M per year from government means we will have
over $500,000 for each North to South block of our small town every year! Tens of thousands of
dollars for every business in lowered costs! Lower costs means lower prices for our guests! Soon
our people will be able to afford to visit once again! Without destructive governance, our prices
will significantly decline and then the middle class and the kids will return. Failure to act means
more "big city prices," vacancies, graffiti, drunks, gangbangers and bars. You pay taxes, we need
