The verbal ex- change escalated when the two in- dividuals in the pool confronted the group on the street and an alterca- tion occurred. 21, of Reading, produced a hand- gun and shot the two victims. After further investigation, OCPD officers determined the second victim had clothing and was not injured, according to police reports. Mendez-Espada was then spotted hiding in shrubs on nearby Marlin Drive. He was later located in the water under a boat dock at a private residence on Marlin Drive. Mendez- Espada was taken into custody with- out further incident. City Dive Team were assisting in the recovery of evidence, although it is uncertain if the weapon was recover- ed. Mendez-Espada has been charg- ed with two counts of attempted first- degree murder, two counts of first- degree assault and one count of the use of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime.
