BERLIN ­ The following is a
compilation of community news
releases received by this publica-
tion over the last few weeks.
·The Ocean City Marlin Club Au-
xiliary presented each of six Wor-
cester County graduates with
$3,000 scholarships at its recent
awards ceremonies.
Since its inception, the Bertha
Holloway Scholarship Fund contin-
ues to grow as the members of the
auxiliary work to raise money for the
county's youth. Over the years, re-
cipients of this scholarship have
gone on to pursue their dreams and
have become successful in a wide
variety of endeavors.
This year's recipients along with
their chosen institutions of higher
learning include Sara Welch, Ste-
venson University; Libby Withers,
Salisbury University; William Wan-
gel, University of Miami; Kelly Adel-
hard, Utah State University; Hye
Soo Chun, University of Maryland
College Park; and Abbey Shobe,
Salisbury University.
·The Sons of Italy Ocean City
Lodge awarded scholarships for
$1,250 each to three high school
graduates. The scholarship recipi-
ents were Abigail Rebecca Brown,
Indian River High School, who will
major in Communications/Media at
Christopher Newport University.
Newport News, Va.; Heather Mi-
chelle Nicolle, Stephen Decatur
High School, who will major in So-
cial Work at Wor-Wic Community
College; and Alexandra Birckett,
Stephen Decatur High School, who
will major in Special Education at
Salisbury University.
·Widener University School of
Law Dean Linda L. Ammons an-
nounced the spring 2013 dean's list
of students for the Harrisburg cam-
pus. Students, including Mitchell
Jones of Berlin, named to the list
earned a grade point average in the
top 20 percent of their class and di-
vision for the semester while pursu-
ing Juris Doctor degrees.
·Kayla Terlizzi of Ocean City has
enrolled in Coastal Carolina Univer-
sity for the fall 2013 semester. She
joins nearly 2,200 other new stu-
dents in the Class of 2017.
·The Ocean Pines Golf Members
Council again awarded scholar-
ships totaling $3,000 to three de-
serving high school seniors. Rec-
ognized for their accomplishments
both on the respective school teams
and in their field of study were Jo-
seph Iacona of Stephen Decatur
High School and Scott Gee and
Patrick Dowling of Worcester Prep.
Scholarship awards are made pos-
sible with the long standing partner-
ship with the Calvin B. Taylor Bank.
Ocean Pines will be hosting the
29th Annual Calvin B. Taylor Bank
Golf Tournament being held on
Wednesday, July 17.
