better thAn ever
The clean-up after Sandy is a testament to the
power of community.
"come on in, the water is fine." in the aftermath of superstorm
sandy, it didn't feel as though the people of new Jersey would be
hearing those words anytime soon. But a year later, following the
ongoing efforts to rebuild homes, towns and lives, the sense of
loss has been replaced by a sense that anything is possible. today,
many residents are back in their homes, area marinemax facilities
are up and running, and many of the structures have been rebuilt.
and the boating? Well, it's better than ever.
a first Glimpse of the Damage
matt cini and his team from marinemax in Brick township
spent all of sunday, oct. 28, 2012, preparing the facility for
the storm. "then on monday morning, when the first tide hit,
we knew we were in for it," cini remembers. the next day they
returned to survey the damage. "it was complete devastation.
every neighborhood, every town, all of our customers in the
area...pretty much all lost their homes, including seven of our
own team members."
Bob andreotta, manager of marinemax on long Beach island,
nJ, also spent the days prior to sandy with his crew bracing for the
worst. following the storm, it took three days before they were
allowed back on the island to assess the damage; they found that
59 boats had floated away from the marina.
"Just tell us when and where, and we'll be there"
almost immediately the team responded with unwavering
commitment to the recovery. "Probably the most fascinating thing
i saw out of this was how unbelievably selfless the team was in
how they reacted," andreotta says.
Back in Brick, the moment employees were allowed back in the
CoMMUnity
marinemax received special recognition from Boating
Industry
for our recovery efforts from Hurricane sandy.
