Information About the Race to the CME Globe
The 2015 LPGA Tour season will mark the second annual Race to the CME Globe, the season-long competition that culminates in Naples, Fla., at the CME Group Tour Championship. Lydia Ko won the inaugural Race to the CME Globe with a thrilling four-hole playoff win at the CME Group Tour Championship to take home both titles and earn the largest payday in women’s golf history. She earned $500,000 for winning the tournament title and an additional $1 million for the Race to CME Globe. The LPGA and CME Group joined together to create this first of its kind points race in women’s golf.
Who is Eligible to Earn Points?
Only members of the LPGA Tour are eligible to earn points toward the Race to the CME Globe.
How Do the Points Work?
LPGA Tour members earn points at each official LPGA Tour event, beginning at the 2015 Coates Golf Championship Presented by R&L Carriers and running through the Lorena Ochoa Invitational. • All tournaments have the same point values except for the five major championships, which will carry 25 percent more value • For all events with a cut, points will be awarded to members who make the cut • For all events without a cut (except for the Lorena Ochoa Invitational), points are awarded to members who finish in the top 40 and ties • For the Lorena Ochoa Invitational, points will be awarded to members who finish in the top 20 and ties. Points will then be reset for the CME Group Tour Championship to give the top nine yearly performers a mathematical shot at taking home the $1 million season-ending prize. The points reset is structured in a way to give the top yearly performers an advantage but not guarantee victory when the points are reset. The 72 players in the field will be given a new point value based on their position in the Race to the CME Globe points standings at the conclusion of the Lorena Ochoa Invitational. The LPGA Tour member with the most points at the end of the CME Group Tour Championship will win the Race to the CME Globe.
Who Will be in the Field for the CME Group Tour Championship?
The winner of each official LPGA Tour event will win automatic entry into the $2 million CME Group Tour Championship (this includes non-member winners). The remainder of the 72-player field will be filled by LPGA Tour members ranked in the order of their position on the Race to the CME Globe Points Standings at the conclusion of the Lorena Ochoa Invitational. Should more than one player tie for last position to complete the 72-player field, all tying players will gain entry into the CME Group Tour Championship.
What is Up for Grabs at the CME Group Tour Championship?
Two Purses; Two Trophies • CME Group Tour Championship trophy and $2 million purse with all players being paid • Race to the CME Globe trophy and a $1.25 million unofficial money purse with the winner earning $1 million – the biggest payout in all of women’s golf
