THE LPGA Getting to know: The LPGA Tour The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) is one of the longest-running women’s professional sports associations in the world. Founded in 1950, the organization has grown from its roots as a playing tour into a non-profit organization involved in every facet of golf. The LPGA Tour and the LPGA Teaching & Club Professionals (T&CP) comprise the backbone of what has become the premier women’s professional sports organization in the world today. The LPGA maintains a strong focus on charity through its tournaments, its grass roots junior and women’s programs, its affiliation with Susan G. Komen For The Cure and the formation of The LPGA Foundation. The LPGA is under the guidance of Commissioner  Mike Whan and is headquartered in Daytona Beach, Florida. This is what sets us apart from others in the world of sports. Founding Members The LPGA owes its long and distinguished history to the hard work and commitment of its 13 founding members. These trailblazers are responsible for creating one of the most successful women’s sports organizations in history and were dedicated to golf as a game and a career. They “did it all” back then: planned and organized the golf tournaments, drafted the by-laws, supervised membership, set up the courses and much more. The LPGA recognizes the sacrifice & devotion of this group of distinguished women and honor them through several respects, including the annual LPGA Founders Cup.
