SOLHEIM CUP HISTORY
2013 SOLHEIM CUP RECAP The 2013 Solheim Cup, the 13th staging of the event, was held at Colorado Golf Club in Parker, Colo., August 16-18. The U.S. Team looked to recover from a devastating loss on European soil in 2011 and entered the week more prepared and motived than ever before, but the European Team used their upper hand in the battle to their advantage. Taking a commanding 10 ½ - 5 ½ lead heading into Sunday’s singles matches, the European Team charged to the finish line and sealed a 18-10 victory to capture the Cup on American soil for the first time in the event’s history. HISTORY The Solheim Cup is named in honor of Karsten Solheim, the founder of Karsten Manufacturing Corporation, which makes PING golf equipment. In 1990, the Solheim family, in conjunction with the LPGA and the LET, developed the concept and became the title sponsor for the Solheim Cup. Held every two years, the event has grown into the most prestigious international women’s professional golf team event. The Solheim Cup is the most highly coveted trophy in women’s professional golf team competition; some of the most memorable moments in women’s golf have happened during the event, and berths on the U.S. and European teams are highly sought after by players from both organizations.
