It’s what you have in your heart.“ Fathers day rolls around this coming weekend and for those of you whose fathers are still with you it is a great time to show how thankful you are. For all they have done in your life, whether biological or adoptive, dads are the ones we turn to for advice when problems arise or challenges are facing us. I am thankful for all my father did to prepare me for so many of those challenges and how he showed me how to treat others in fairness and respect. He was an example to me of dedication to his spouse, family, community, and profession. I hope that you have had the same in your lives as well. God Bless all those men who take the time to be fathers to our sons and daughters. The Tuesday Night All Acoustic Music Jam at the Center continues to be well attended. If you either sing or play an acoustic instrument you are invited to join in too. Even if you are only just a fan of great gospel/country music you will want to drop in and enjoy the talented folks sharing their gift of music. If you have not attended, take this as a personal invite for you to come and spend the evening participating or just listening. This is always a good time of food and fellowship beginning at 6:30 - 9:00 each week. Donations are accepted. Now you can't beat that price for an evenings entertainment. The rain gauge is now showing three inches have fallen on the farm over the past ten days. The grass has taken on a healthy shade of green and I am back in the mowing mode when I return home in the afternoons, I just hope I can keep the grass burrs in check more than last summer when the late rains pushed the little prickly devils ahead of me. That is the only childhood memory that is not pleasant of our visits to Vashti. I remember spending hours picking out those little mace headed thorns out of socks and pants legs after every excursion out in the pastures. The playground elves struck again this week and finished up the earthwork behind the retaining wall and on the south edge of the playground. The final phase of the playground will be the construction of a roof structure covering the equipment so that it can be enjoyed year-round. The area will be fenced in with picnic tables for those watching their children play. Thank you to whomever is keeping this project moving along. The finish line is quickly coming into focus. I hope that all the Bellevue ex-students had a wonderful time gathering and reliving precious school memories this Sunday. It is always great to see how many of those who attended this school keep in touch with each other as the years quickly pass. May each of you have a safe and prosperous year until your return next year. In other prayers this week please also remember Kathy Middleton, Debra Carner, Dane Lancaster, Gary Ferguson, Jeffrey Padgett, Ava Lawson, Josie Wise, Kay and Earnest Perkins, Grover Watkins, Dewey Staley, Sue Phillips, Wanda Molsbee, Trey Spivey, JoAnn Spivey, Betty Jo Hatfield, Bill Bartlett, B.J. Tate, Garrett Nunn, and Philip Lawson. Please remember to keep Tyler Galligher and all those from our area actively serving in the military at this time. Visiting in Vashti 23 by Bruce Specht A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls Have you turned down a chance to go out with family or friends because you were concerned about falling? Have you cut down on a favorite activity because you might fall? If so, A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls is a program for you. Fear of falling can be just as dangerous as falling itself. People who develop this fear often limit their activities, which can result in severe physical weakness, making the risk of falling even greater. Many older adults also experience increased isolation and depression when they limit their interactions with family and friends. A Matter of Balance can help people improve their quality of life and remain independent. A Matter of Balance is designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults. Participants learn to set realistic goals to increase activity, change their environment to reduce fall risk factors, and learn simple exercises to increase strength and balance. Bowie Senior Citizens Project is offering A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls on Monday through Thursday at 9:00 a.m. for two weeks beginning June 19th at the Bowie Senior Center, 501 Pelham St. This is a free program. A workbook is provided and refreshments are served. Class size is limited to 12. Please call 940-872-4500 to register or for more information.
