growth and transformation
Transformation is a big word for a simple idea: we want to provide an
educational environment in which your child begins a journey of superior
learning, with remarkable outcomes. For us, that has meant challenging
the outdated notion that teaching and learning are nothing more than the
transfer of knowledge from teacher to student.
Most of our teachers hold advanced degrees, including a number with
doctorates, reflecting our commitment to rigor and excellence in all
grades and across all curricula. Our programs in the STEM areas--science,
technology, engineering and math--are well known for preparing students
for the rigors of college study and the global marketplace that awaits them.
Our programs in the humanities and arts engage students in a vigorous,
in-depth tour of literature, history, social sciences, world languages and
cultures. At the same time, they are developing exceptional communications
skills and critical thinking capabilities.
A transformational education is much more than a knowledge transfer in
which students are regarded as empty vessels needing to be filled with facts.
Instead, students at Prairie are considered true partners in, and owners of,
their own education. Understanding the relationships between different
fields of study--history, literature, science, mathematics, language and
culture--is key to a Prairie student's education. The result: a deeper, fuller,
richer understanding of a world that is truly interconnected.
At Prairie, students are active partners in their own
education. To truly learn, it couldn't be any other way.
