Finding the undiscovered world out there actually starts pretty close to home:
in the mind of a child learning to develop his or her own creative power.
Self-expression is perhaps the beginning of all else--curiosity, learning to
look in new directions, finding one's voice, unleashing creative impulses . . .
these are all building blocks in creating extraordinary minds. Our visual arts
program is second to none. Students are exposed to virtually every medium,
including painting, ceramics, photography, video, sculpture, fiber-art . . . even
glassblowing, with Prairie being the only school in the U.S. to offer a hot glass
studio to students as early as middle school.
Take a stroll through Prairie's hallways and you'll see they are a remarkable
gallery of our students' work, full of wonderful visual expression from young
people realizing their creative imaginings and skills.
Field trips and visiting artists offer students broad exposure in the arts, but
it is our teachers, hands-on and accomplished artists themselves, whose
individual creative mentoring helps find and inspire the creative potential
within every Prairie student. A true creative transformation is the rich reward.
Curiosity, imagination, creativity . . . these are the seeds
that nurture active, probing minds--the minds that belong
to the innovators of the new century.
