Zermatt is one of the most popular winter destinations in Europe. This
internationally famous resort is cosmopolitan and stylish, but has managed
to retain its rustic charm. Its narrow streets are lined with boutique shops,
restaurants and chalets. There are no cars allowed in the village, all transport
is either by horse drawn sleigh or electric taxis, which adds to the charm and
atmosphere of this unique village. The famous Matterhorn peak stands watch
over the village. The skiing in Zermatt is varied with an even balance of gentle
and difficult slopes. The breathtaking black runs offer exhilarating powder skiing
and off piste terrain, whilst the more gentle slopes are wide and groomed to
perfection. The mountain offers up to 40 restaurants for those wishing to take a
break or perhaps take the opportunity to lunch in Cervinia in Italy by skiing the
Theodulpass.

The decor at the Hotel Alex is an eclectic mix of alpine and art
nouveau, the atmosphere is informal and relaxed. Two generations of
the Perren family are still involved and have created a ski hotel where
guests return year after year. The food has an excellent reputation
