MOTUEKA
MOTUEKA, gateway to the
natural treasures of the nelson
region, is a busy town of 12,000
people. The town lies just inland
from Tasman Bay and adjacent
to the Motueka River, one of
the finest trout fisheries in the
southern hemisphere.
The coastal plain enjoys one of
the best climates in the country.
Plenty of all year sunshine,
long hot summers and regular
rainfall combine to make the
area a land of grapes, apples
and hops.
The climate, wonderful location
and relaxed lifestyle have
attracted a cosmopolitan group
of new settlers over the past
few years. Arts and tourism
flourish together throughout
the region Galleries, wineries,
restaurants and cafes nestle
throughout the region and in
Motueka itself the atmosphere
is friendly and creative.
Here you will find music, cafes,
arts and crafts shops as well as
modern convenience shopping
and all your requirements for
that adventure in one of the
nearby national parks. Motueka
has established itself as the
aviation adventure centre of
Nelson. With the scenery and
views of three national parks in
the area, this is not surprising.
Charter flights are available
in both fixed wing planes
and helicopters, including the
option of dual control test
flights. Pilot training from
beginner to commercial pilot is
available at the Nelson Aviation
College. The Abel Tasman
National Park offers high
quality facilities and activities
for the visitor. Subtropical
forest tracks lead through
easy coastal landscapes strung
with perfect golden bays. In
Kahurangi National Park the
vast wilderness expanse is
threaded by challenging tracks
and fast flowing rivers.
