The Samuel Chase Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Salisbury, presented “The Flag of the United States of America” to students of Worcester Preparatory School. At the request of the Honorable Benjamin L. Submitted Photos Fourth-graders at Berlin Intermediate School (pictured) have been actively involved throughout the summer and through the After School Academy with Assateague Island National Seashore. Fourth-graders donated their pennies in a penny drive in order to foster an Assateague pony named Rosie, a 19-year-old mare. Students will continue to collect pennies throughout the year in order to help take care of Rosie. The middle school grades at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic School are involved in the VEX robotics program, intended to introduce them to the world of robotics. This new initiative gets students involved in the collaborative building and programming of a robot that is manipulated to complete a task and eventually even participate in a classroom competition. At the Capital Challenge Horse Show in the Prince George’s Equestrian Center in Upper Marlboro, Worcester Preparatory School senior Hannah Showell on her horse Axtrex tied for Grand Champion in the 16-year-old equitation division. Showell went on to compete at the Washington International Horse Show, known as the most prestigious competition in show jumping. Only the top 20 riders and horses in the country are invited to participate. Showell qualified and placed fourth with a new horse named McGwire. As part of the seventh-grade Cobra team’s Service Learning Project at Stephen Decatur Middle School, native tree species now threatened along the eastern seaboard are being reintroduced into Worcester County. The students are planting and growing their personal white cedar trees on the school grounds. First- and second-grade students at Snow Hill Elementary School were treated to a free book fair in October.
