D US TO “The Winning Team” OCEAN CITY – Local anglers hoping to avoid the crowds and holiday shopping next weekend and perhaps win some money instead of spending it will participate next weekend in the 7th Annual Black Friday 550 Rockfish Tournament, which gets underway next Friday out of the Ocean City Fishing Cen-ter. For two days next weekend, local fishing enthusiasts looking for an alternative to holiday shopping will take to the waters in and around the resort area for the 7th Annual Black Friday 550 tournament. As the name of the event implies, the only species targeted during the annual tournament will be rockfish, or striped bass. Each boat will be able to weigh four rockfish on each day of the tournament and the designated captains will be responsible for determining which of a boat’s four largest rockfish should be weighed. Of course, all rockfish brought to the scale must adhere to state and federal retention limits and any fish weighed that does not meet the minimum keeper limits will result in the disqualification of a boat and its anglers. Cash prizes for the largest rockfish weighed will be awarded at different intervals during the two-day event with a winner-take-all prize for the largest single rockfish weighed during the tournament. Weigh-ins will be held each fishing day at the Ocean City Fishing Center from 10 a.m.-noon and again from 5-7 p.m. ✪✆✗✜¤✯✘❜✍✆¤❂¤✴✎✟✑¤✬✡✡✍✆✔ Office: 410-723-8775 Cell: 410-726-2398 www.rickandkaty.com Don’t miss this last exciting opportunity to purchase NEW at Bella Vista!! 104th Street: 10401 Coastal Highway, Ocean City, Maryland 410-524-6111 800-638-1880 Owner and Operated by NRT LLC Bull Assassins Top ESM For OCFlag Title By SHAWN J. SOPER SPORTS EDITOR OCEAN CITY – The Bull Assassins claimed the Ocean City Recreation and Parks Department’s Fall Flag Football League championship this week, edging five-team champ Eastside Mafia, 25-19, in the title game on Tuesday. The Bull Assassins went undefeated in the championship tournament and cruised to the title game. However, Eastside Mafia, which had won the title five years in a row, took an early round loss and had to battle back through the loser’s bracket to get a chance to repeat. Eastside Mafia beat Seaquest, 3816, in the first game on Tuesday at the 4th Street fields to advance. The championship game went back and forth with the Bull Assassins ultimately holding on for the 2519 win and the title. Eastside Mafia got on the board first with a 66-yard touchdown pass from Ray Taranto to Mac Williams. The Assassins re- sponded with a one-yard TD pass from Charlie McCaffrey to Jay Manuel to cut the lead to 8-6. Taranto then hit Ron Strickler with an 11-yard touchdown pass to extend the lead to 10 points at 16-6, but McCaffrey responded with an eight-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Boyle to cut the lead to 16-12 going into the half. In the second half, the Bull Assassins took the lead on a five-yard touchdown pass from McCaffrey to Steve Monroe to go ahead, 18-16. Eastside Mafia’s Adam Rones then put his team back on top, 19-18, with a 31-yard field goal. Late in the game with his team trailing by one, McCaffrey hit Tyler Boyle with a two-yard touchdown pass to put the Bull Assassins ahead, 25-19. Trailing by just six points, the Eastside Mafia had one last chance late to tie the game or go ahead to defend their title. Eastside Mafia drove into Assassins territory before an interception by Boyle on the eight-yard line with 40 seconds left ended the comeback attempt.
