Veterans Day Ceremonies Set
OCEAN CITY – A number of Veterans Day ceremonies are planned for the lower shore on Monday. The American Legion Synepuxent Post 166 will partner with the O.C. Memorial VFW Post 8296 for a special Veteran’s Day program on Monday at Post 166 headquarters on 26th Street beginning at 5 p.m. Additionally, the Worcester County Veterans Memorial Foundation will host its 10th Annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Monday at 11 a.m. at the memorial along Route 589 in Ocean Pines. This year, there will be a special recognition of those who served in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. As part of the ceremony, the Patriot’s Pathway, a new expansion of the memorial, will be dedicated. Meanwhile, the Wicomico War Memorial Committee is inviting the public to attend a ceremony honoring military veterans on Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. The ceremony will take place at the Wicomico County War Memorial located directly in front of the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held in the Midway Room of the civic center.
Native American Heritage Recognized
The County Commissioners presented proclamations this month recognizing November as Native American Heritage Month to People of Mother Earth Wolf Clan members John and Diane “Singing Fire Wolf Woman” Baldwin, Accohannock Tribe Chief Rudy “Laughing Otter” Hall and Assateague People tribe member Mike “Quiet Bear” Morabito. The commissioners also recognized the efforts of the three area tribes to share their rich heritage and culture with school-age children and adults alike through volunteer outreach programs in Worcester County.
