The Riff Tunic is written to be knit in the round. For tips on converting to flat knitting and making other modifications
(edgings, stitch patterns, hoods, sleeves, etc.) visit www.skacelfiberstudio.com. Work a gauge swatch to determine what
needle size creates a fabric you like with your chosen yarn. Choose a cable length slightly shorter than the circumference
you
're knitting (for instance, a 32" needle for a 36" tunic). Circle the numbers that apply to your size and gauge.
YARDAGE ESTIMATES
note: may vary with modifications
Cast-on:
Join to work in the round, placing stitch markers at beginning of round and at
midpoint (two equal sections, front and back). Work desired edging for desired
length, then work body of tunic until desired length: tunics shown throughout are
between 12
" and 15" from cast-on edge to eyelet row under bust. For a hip-length
pullover, knit approximately 12
"; for a longer dress length tunic, knit 15" or more.
Work Eyelet Round as follows one, starting at beginning of round (
note: if you
have been working in a heavily textured stitch pattern, work several rounds in
Stockinette Stitch before and after Eyelet Round):
Work as established for 4
", then place half of stitches on a piece of scrap yarn and
set aside. Increase for Back:
as evenly as possible across row.
Work flat until Back measures 12
" from Eyelet Round. You may want to work a
selvedge edge stitch on the edges, as these will form the armholes of your tunic.
Bind-off all stitches. With half of remaining held stitches, work back and forth
until Front measures the same as Back, working sleeve and neck edge stitches
with a selvedge edging if desired. Bind-off all stitches and repeat with remaining
stitches. Graft shoulders, starting at armhole edge and working inward; remaining
stitches form neck opening. Weave in all ends and block if desired. With remaining
yarn, knit an 80
" I-Cord drawstring and thread through Eyelet Round.
Wear in good health!
