los roques SIGHTCAST OUTFITTERS [Los Roques, Venezuela] los roques Arguably one of the world’s most beautiful and productive saltwater destinations, the archipelago of Los Roques, Venezuela, is a protected natural marine park that is home to some of the best bonefishing on earth. Hands-down, this is one of our very favorite flats destinations in the world, and we feel strongly that a trip to Los Roques should be high on list for every serious saltwater angler. We have worked with the team from Sightcast Outfitters since they first started their operation on the archipelago, and we know the operation and the fishery inside and out. First-rate guides, long days on the water, and clean, reliable boats make Sightcast Outfitters the number one choice on Los Roques. While fishing this area, it is common to stalk bonefish by walking the beaches and flats in search of cruising fish. One of things that makes this fishery so unique is that the large, predatory bonefish are almost always feeding aggressively on minnows – the main food source for these Venezuelan bones. And, since 95% of the fishing here is done on foot away from the boat, you’ll be right at home on Los Roques if you are someone who loves to wade. This is a primarily a bonefishing destination, with some possibilities for tarpon, permit, and huge barracuda. Accommodations are at Posada Acuarela, offering the nicest rooms on the island, amazing food, air conditioning, plenty of cold beer, and a great location in the center of small fishing village of Gran Roque. 7 night / 6 fishing day packages $4,250.00 per person. los roques, venezuela Islas Los Roques consists of 40 to 50 major islands located 92 miles off the Venezuelan mainland north of Caracas. If you count all of the small islets and coral outcroppings in the area, there are over 300 islands in the Los Roques chain, something that puts the potential size of the fishing area into perspective. While some of the flats are quite large and reminiscent of something you might find in the Bahamas, most are 70 to 100 feet wide with very little coral, a good amount of turtle grass, and a hard bottom that is ideal for wading. The number of tailing bonefish found on the pancake flats and “classic” bonefish flats of Los Roques can be astounding. Other times, anglers can expect to walk and wade the beaches, looking for large, cruising bonefish that travel in pairs or small schools feeding on minnows and baitfish. The area also offers a number of shallow lagoons that at times can provide exceptional action for cruising, deeper-water bonefish. It is not unusual for anglers fishing Los Roques to catch between 10 and 20 bonefish per day. Most bonefish on Los Roques will average 4 pounds, and larger fish are quite common. Although Los Roques is primarily a bonefish destination, you may encounter other species as well. Be prepared with a second rod, fully rigged for cruising barracuda, tarpon, permit, or mackerel.
