At 2,300 square miles, Andros is the largest and most undeveloped island in the Bahamas. Its waters are well known, however, thanks to the second-largest reef in the Northern Hemisphere and a reputation as the “Bonefishing Capital of the World.” The island, measuring roughly 120 by 40 miles, is home to approximately 8,000 inhabitants, most of whom reside on its northern coast. Andros has always been one of the least explored islands in the Bahamas. Early explorers in the area traditionally avoided Andros, as it is surrounded by shallow water and thereby very difficult and dangerous to make landfall or anchor. These same factors, however, make it the ideal flats destination, with thousands of square miles of shallow waters, flats and healthy fish habitat. BROAD SHAD CAY [North Bight – Andros Island, Bahamas] In 2009, after years of planning and construction, well-known Andros guide Capt. Andy Smith opened one of the nicest, most exclusive small-lodge operations we’ve ever seen. Extremely well-situated on it’s own private island in a very remote location, Broad Shad Cay consists of two bedrooms, a main dining room and lounge, and a wrap-around deck offering unbeatable views of the surrounding waters. Lodge amenities include satellite TV, air conditioning, and a productive wading flat right in front of the lodge. This one-of-a-kind destination is situated in the North Bight, equidistant between the east and west coasts of Andros. This location allows anglers to fish optimum tides throughout the day with minimal running time in the boat. Small and very exclusive, Broad Shad offers a great location, first-rate accommodations, and the opportunity to learn the finer aspects of flats fishing from the best team of guides on Andros. Capacity is limited to four guests per week, and reservations should be made well in advance. We have known Andy Smith for close to 20 years, and can say without reservation that he is hands-down one of our favorite people in the fishing industry. If you could only fish one destination in the entire Bahamas once in your life, this would probably be our number one pick! 6 night/ 5 fishing day package $4,969.00 per person. 28 • phone: 406-585-8667 • toll free: 888-777-5060 email: info@yellowdogflyfishing.com • website: www.yellowdogflyfishing.com • 29
