marine foundation
The museum's maritime exhibits include
nautical models, and displays on the bun-
ker fishing and oyster industries. Located
in the former Long Island Railroad Station
on Third Street, the museum and gift shop
is open weekends, May through June and in
September; July and August, 7 days. 477-2100

Artifacts and historical information on Long
Island's railroad housed in a restored freight
house dating from 1892. Outside exhibits
include a 1907 snowplow named "Jaws."Take
the guided tour. Open Memorial Day through
Columbus Day weekends and holidays only,
11am 4pm. Next to LIRR station at 4th Street.

Built in the 1920's, this restored carousel
is located under a weather-proof pavilion
at Mitchell Park on Front Street. Bring the
kids to catch the brass ring and win a free
ride. Open during the summer from 10am to
9pm, off-season open weekends and holidays,
weather permitting.
Lighthouses
The East End Seaport Museum and Marine
Foundation runs lighthouse cruises from
June through October, both all-day and eve-
ning cruises. Call for reservations and infor-

Greenport waters offer some of the best fi sh-
ing on Long Island. Starting in April, party
boats head out to catch fl ounder, fl uke, striped
bass, blues, blackfi sh and porgies. Capt. Dave
Brennan of the Peconic Star Express leaves
from Railroad Dock in Greenport (631-875-
2631) daily for all day fishing; The Peconic
Star Express goes out for striped bass and

leaves at 7am and 4pm daily from Orient by
