Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy is a holistic healing art. It invites presence and awareness
rather than prescribing treatments. Using age-old yogic approaches to foster a deeper
internal experience, we are able to know ourselves more fully. Out of this knowing we are
more easily moved to embrace the opportunity for change, growth and enhanced well-
being in body, feelings, thought and spirit.

What is Phoenix Rising Yoga?
It was a cloudy and dreary day and I felt much the same on the inside. I walked into the yoga
studio expecting to be anonymous, not seen, hidden behind a sea of people and mats and bare
feet. But the teacher met me at the door. I was greeted with a warm smile, welcomed to my
class and invited to set up my mat anywhere in the room. It felt both uncomfortable and oddly
comforting to be seen and greeted this way. Already I could tell something was very different
about this yoga class.
After I closed my eyes, I was skillfully and compassionately guided through a sequence of
postures and experiences with my body and breath. The teacher's language made me feel like I
could find my own expression of a posture, not an ideal expression of it. The class had a theme
that helped me listen to my body's messages about how I might live with less stress and more
ease in my life. And while they were not easy messages to hear from myself, and the action
steps that made those messages become a reality were challenging, I realized I was in charge
of my own life. I felt empowered, which was both deeply satisfying and very scary. I realized only
I could make the necessary changes to live the life I love. It was a profound class, leaving a long
lasting impact on how I relate to my body and my life. So profound, in fact, that I now offer this
form of yoga to others.
