O UR L EADING ACCOMPLIS HM E N TS: 201 2 FROM OUR EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT It’s been a great year for the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and The Plastic Surgery Foundation (The PSF). Through your membership and volunteer support, we introduced new products to enhance your practice and new initiatives to strengthen the specialty on the national stage. The value proposition of membership in ASPS remains strong, dynamic and effective. You and your practice also received a huge return on your investment in the Plastic Surgery Educational Campaign in terms of brand awareness and publicity. Through our many media efforts, including the annual procedural statistics campaign and various consumer awareness campaigns, we reached more than 1.9 billion consumers. ASPS also worked to help you every day in your practice through its Plastic Surgery Business Solutions (PSBS) group. Through Access Medical Purchasing (AMP), more than 2,400 members saved on their practice’s purchases in 2012. Our new strategic alliance with eClinicalWorks helps plastic surgeons bring the next generation of EMR technology to their practices and meet the future requirements for EHR. ASPS forged ahead in providing top-tier educational symposia and fresh, creative perspectives within the industry. 2012 was an important year for launching new symposia and initiatives to further build our offerings. We continued our expansion internationally with “Memorandum of Understanding” agreements to help us expand our membership and bring our educational programs, services and research to a broader audience. The PSF made historic moves by signing an exclusive collaborative research and development agreement with the FDA. The contractual agreement that focuses on breast implants and the development of the National Breast Implant Registry (NBIR) will prove to be a major piece of infrastructure for ongoing requirements associated with post-market surveillance. The list of important accomplishments continues within the pages of this annual report. I would like to recognize the great contributions of the ASPS/The PSF staff who work tirelessly to achieve the results that drive our performance. I want to thank the entire ASPS/The PSF team for making this a great place to work. I would also like to extend my gratitude to our 2012 Presidents, Malcolm Z. Roth, MD, and Michael W. Neumeister, MD, and to the Executive Committee and Board of Directors for their continued support and advice over the past year. I look forward to developing our future together. Sincerely, MICHAEL D. COSTELLOE, JD Executive Vice President PA G E 7
