abouT The PSF Founded in 1948, the plastic Surgery Foundation’s (the pSF) mission is to improve the quality of patient care through research and development. the Foundation fosters the advancement of medical discovery and patient safety by developing and supporting research through a variety of granting programs, clinical trials networks, training programs and forums that encourage innovation in medical devices and techniques. the pSF also fosters the clinical exposure of plastic surgeons by sponsoring Visiting professors and International Scholars as well as surgeons who volunteer abroad to help the impoverished and foster international outreach through Volunteers in plastic Surgery (VIpS). the pSF helps validate and advance care in both reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. • Legacy: the pSF has a legacy of innovation and has funded research that has had real and relevant impact on doctors and patients lives. • Collaborative: the pSF has an active research advisory council. this “think tank” exists to ensure that the pSF allocates its resources to the most important areas to strengthen the future of plastic surgery. • Credible: the pSF has a track record of getting things done. the pSF is the only organization in organized plastic surgery that has modeled its grant program after the national Institute of health (nIh). the pSF has the credibility, leadership and staffing to tackle important issues. anaplastic large cell lymphoma (alCl), fat grafting and Vte are prime examples. • Relevant: the pSF guides clinically relevant research that affects the everyday practice of plastic surgeons everywhere. new procedures, new ways of thinking and new funding occur only with your support. people like you, corporations and foundations all support the pSF.
