he 40th Annual Coffs harbour Surf
Craft Carnival staged the resurgence in the
interstate surf lifesaving battle between nSW
and Queensland. the carnival was held at
its traditional time, being the last weekend
in november 23 and 24 november 2013. thanks
to the sponsorship support of C.ex Coffs, last year's
event was able to increase event prize money, which
attracted one of the most competitive fields of
entrants seen at the craft carnival for many years.

The interstate surf boat race was competed for by
both the open men's and open women's divisions. The
Queensland crew of Northcliffe won the men's division
with the NSW South Curl Curl crew second and Queens-
land's Tannum Sands third. The women's division was
dominated by NSW with Palm Beach first, North Steyne
second and Burning Palms third. This gave the overall
points score and victory to NSW.
C.ex Coffs Chief Executive Officer John Rafferty
presented NSW the winner's perpetual trophy and ad-
dressed the large crowd in attendance. "The C.ex Coffs
Club has a proud and strong association with the Coffs
Harbour Surf Lifesaving Club and surf lifesaving gener-
ally," he said. He was delighted to note that the Club's
sponsorship: "provided the support to see the 40th Craft
Carnival such a success and set the platform for the next
40 years".
Coffs Harbour Surf Club President Paul Ninness said:
"The Craft Carnival is usually well attended by clubs and
competitors wanting to compete at a high level early in
the season as part of their season's program leading up
to the national titles. Thanks to the very generous sup-
port of the C.ex Coffs Club, the quality of the competi-
tion this year has been the strongest for many years,
with the interstate challenge already being planned for
next year."
Local crews competed very successfully against the
city clubs with the Coffs Harbour men's crew finish-
ing third in the reserve final and Woolgoolga placing
second. The Woolgoolga under 23 men finished fifth in
their final. The Coffs Coast turned on ideal surf condi-
tions, with the finals contested on the Sunday morn-
ing in a 2-metre swell, light north-easterly breeze and
sunny conditions. With the board and ski events at the
surf club end of the beach and the boats in the middle
section, Park Beach was a picture of competitors and
spectators.
