Sustainability.... Continued from Page 9 sustainability, the committee would like to help our partners in the consulting world to create more sustainable workplaces. Oftentimes the consultants do not own the facilities in which they work, therefore it is more challenging, as tenants, to have control over implementing sustainable practices such as recycling or water conservation. If you have ideas, suggestions, or experience in greening your rented/leased workspace, please share. We welcome ideas now for future Sustainability Session speakers. Contact Carrie Meek Gallagher for an example of an overview of sustainability initiatives underway at Suffolk County Water Authority. Similar information could be documented for utilities across the state and eventually categorized within a database so that a utility interested in water efficiency could access information about projects completed or under way at other utilities in the state. Future Sustainability Sessions 2013 was the second year that NYSAWWA’s Spring Water Event included a session dedicated to sustainability. Institutionalizing this session as part of the Spring Event was one of the committee’s top priorities. This year’s session was well attended and included a range of topics: 1. Effective Implementation of Green & Sustainable Practices in a Public Works Project - Holly Rosenthal - Metropolitan Water Board 2. Sustainable Water System Management/Capacity - Teresa Boepple - NYSDOH 3. Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure’s Envision Rating System & Credentialing Program - Howard LaFever - ISI Board Chair/GHD 4. Water Efficient Irrigation Practices - Rich Silverman - Rain Rich Sprinklers SPRING SUMMER 2013 AqUARIUS 19
