As we look ahead to the next few months, one has to be excited at the debut of so many new ships with new builds in both Ocean and River cruises. River cruising continues to surge as a cruising sector with 16 new river cruise ships being launched in 2013. While AmaWaterways, Avalon, Uniworld and Viking River Cruises are all introducing new river ships in 2013, Viking River Cruises accounts for 10 of these new ships alone! Mark Schiffner Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Cruise Holidays International Norwegian Cruise Line’s Breakaway will be sailing year round from New York to the Caribbean starting with its inaugural sailing in May. Royal Princess, the first new build for Princess in many years, will start sailing in June of this year. Following these two new ships and many more in 2013, will be Royal Caribbean International’s recently unveiled secret, “Project Sunshine,” which will launch Quantum and Anthem of the Seas! Quantum of the Seas debuts in the Fall of 2014. We hope you’ll find interesting our feature on Windstar Cruises’ newly refurbished Wind Surf! I sailed aboard the Wind Surf soon after her transformation; it is now my favorite small ship experience. Think about it: a luxury private yacht coupled with many unique ports throughout the Greek Isles, Italy, Europe, the Caribbean and Costa Rica. How wonderful does that sound? Moreover, we have just learned that Windstar Cruises has finalized a deal with Seabourn for the acquisition of three luxury yachts: Seabourn Pride, Seabourn Spirit and Seabourn Legend, which will enhance the Windstar fleet tremendously! Our Perspectives pages include a feature on the Queen Mary 2, a true “ocean liner” that was built to cross the Atlantic and travel the oceans of the world with regal style and grace. Also written by a Cruise Holidays owner, is a feature on Oceania Cruises’ newest fleet member Riviera. Read on to hear all about what Riviera has to offer. As in the past, in this edition we will also take you away to faraway places like Turkey, Norway and Venice. I hope you enjoy reading Compass! Sincerely, Mark Schiffner Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Cruise Holidays International 34 6 CRUISE HOLIDAYS
