Cruise news HOLLAND AMERICA LINE TO EXPAND ITS FLEET Holland America Line is constructing a brand new ship for delivery in the fall 2015. The 99,000-ton ship to be built by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri, will be a new class of vessel for the line and will carry 2,660 guests. This much-anticipated addition will enter service ve years after the last Holland America Line ship, ms Nieuw Amsterdam, was delivered in 2010. Presently Holland America Line’s eet consists of 15 mid-size ships o ering more than 500 sailings a year visiting all seven continents including unique voyages to the Amazon, Antarctica and extended Grand Voyages around the world. For those of you wanting a once-in-a-lifetime adventure in the lap of luxury, look no further than Seabourn. Starting in November, Seabourn will begin o ering voyages to Antarctica. The all-suite Seabourn Quest will o er four 21- to 24-day voyages between Buenos Aires, Argentina and Valparaiso, Chile. Antarctica was previously the only continent that Seabourn did not call at. Quest will cruise the Chilean coast and the Chilean ords where guests can see the stunning glaciers; also included is a transit of the Beagle Channel and Glacier Alley. Guests will then have ve days in Antarctica, including Paradise Bay, the Gerlache Strait and Lemaire Channel. The cruises will feature naturalists, scientists, and other guest speakers, along with an experienced expedition sta who will arrange landings and cruising in in atables, as weather and conditions permit. SEABOURN VISITS ANTARCTICA TERE MOANA SETS SAIL Paul Gauguin Cruises recently welcomed its newest edition, the all-inclusive luxury ship, the 88-guest m/v Tere Moana, which arrived in the fleet after a multi-million dollar renovation. The ship has a luxurious new look – chic and stylish with Polynesian flair. All staterooms feature an ocean view, some with balcony; a queen-size bed and luxury amenities. The two elegant dining rooms will offer regionally infused cuisine of the destinations visited. Onboard m/v Tere Moana, evenings will be filled with live piano music and informative lectures in Le Salon, the perfect place to enjoy cocktails and unwind after a day of adventure. And for relaxation, the Deep Nature Spa by Algotherm will offer signature spa treatments. A fitness center, equipped with the latest cardio and weightlifting equipment is also available. m/v Tere Moana will specialize in warm-weather destinations, with an emphasis on unique itineraries and hidden ports that larger ships cannot offer. This April through to November, m/v Tere Moana will sail a variety of 7-night European voyages from Barcelona, Rome, Venice, Athens and Istanbul to the Western Mediterranean, Italy, Adriatic, Greek Isles and Black Sea. She will return to cruising the Caribbean in December of this year. A NEW OASIS AND QUANTUM LEAP FOR ROYAL CARIBBEAN Royal Caribbean has ordered a third Oasis-class vessel for delivery in mid-2016 which will be a sister-ship to the very successful Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas. The ship will be built by STX France. Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas are the largest cruise ships in the world; they span 16 decks, encompass 225,282 gross registered tons and carry 5,400 guests. With the success of this class, Royal Caribbean is currently undergoing a fleet wide revitalization program to bring the latest innovations and the highest guestrated programs from Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas to the cruise line’s ships across the fleet all of which will be completed by 2014. Also just recently announced is Royal Caribbean’s next generation of cruise ship, the brand new class which will be known as Quantum-class. Quantum of the Seas will debut in fall 2014 and Anthem of the Seas will follow in spring 2015. Royal Caribbean’s legacy is built on introducing “at sea firsts”, such as rock climbing walls, ice-skating rinks, surf simulators, zip lines and even a tropical park.
