This is just the class for you! Participants will learn how birds behave, making it easier for you to find, watch and identify the type you are seeing. Bird identification, adaptations, and habitat will be introduced. Birds of the Oregon Coast will be our focus during this four-session class. Participants will have access to bird guides and binoculars and will learn how to use them. The final day of class will be a field trip to identify birds in the area. This course teaches money-management life skills. We will engage in a layman’s overview of the ancient Mesoamerican ruins (archaeology), the glyphic writing on the monuments (epigraphy), the culture and religion of the ancient Maya (anthropology), and some highlights about their artifacts and codices (books). The instructor is an independent scholar who has traveled extensively in Mexico and Central America to visit many of the ancient sites that have been uncovered to date. Articles written by the teacher will be distributed as study guides. These articles will cover such diverse topics as the sites of Ek Balam in the Yucatan, Copan in Honduras, the Panti Medicine Trail in Belize, Samabaj in Guatemala, Cacao, Nixtamalization of corn, and the Effects of Toxic Metals Anciently. Course material will also lightly touch on a few non-Maya cultures, particularly the Olmec.
