Have paint, This summer, OCCC art instructor Julia Goos Pence and Melissa Moffitt, an art student at the college, will be traveling to St. Petersburg, Russia to study the art of Palekh style painting. They will present an exhibition and lecture on their research on Oct. 7, followed by classes they will present on Oct. 8 and 10, as well as in the spring term. Their trip is funded by the OCCC Foundation, through a memorial fund in the name of Dodie Moore, a former resident of Seal Rock and an accomplished painter who studied under a Russian Palekh Master Painter. “Traveling to Russia to learn the this art form is extremely exciting for us,” said Julia. “We look forward to learning the meaning behind the imagery that is often about folk stories.” “Experiencing a new culture will be very broadening,” Melissa added. “Just being able to see their architecture will be like being in a new world, especially because we are so ‘plain Jane’ in comparison to their buildings, which can be gilded in gold and silver!” You can follow Julia and Melissa’s experiences during the trip through their blog, at http://dodiemoorerussiatrip.blogspot.com. “I am proud to say that I am a prenursing student at OCCC because the instructors here are outstanding, supportive and highly qualified.” – jayne dittmer will travel Course #1063078 OCCC Happenings Palekh classes, plus exhibition & lecture Exhibition & Lecture • Oct. 7 • 5-7 pm • Free Newport/Central Campus Dr. Patrick J.
